The articles of confederatin was the first government plan of the new nation, but this had many flaws.
Provided a weak national government
Congress had no power to tax or regulate commerce
Provided no common currency
Each state had 1 vote for congress no matter how big the state or how many people lived their.
Had no real leader (executive branch) or a court of any kind (judicial branch)
Weaknesses of the articles of confederation:
1.Weak national government
States had more power than national government did.
2. Congress could not tax or Regulate commerce.
Authority was weak.
Power not given to the congress was pretty much given to the states.
congress could declare war and peace, but could not tax
Congress COULD comand an army and navy.
Congress could make laws, but couldn't make states follow them.
3.Provided no national currency.
Every state had a diffrent currency. This led to problems with trading and buying things with other states. NOBODY COULD! (unless they are from the same state.
4.Each state had one vote in congress.
This made it so no matter the amount of people on a state or the size of a state each state had one vote in congress. people voted on the person they wanted but whoever got the most votes was was the states 1 vote. This was very unfair.
5.there was no executive or judicial branch of government.
had no leader for the whole nation like a president or a king.
Could not make laws or make people follow them.
As you can see this led to big problems. This also made people question their government
